- Additional Information George Cockayne's carvings are at the margin of what is usually considered folk art; yet he shares with many little-known and untrained artists an awesome creative skill and imagination. The popular folktale about Red Riding Hood became the subject for this scene, built around a log cabin. Red Riding Hood stands with the Woodcutter, and the Wolf lies in the bed inside. Special care has been given to the details of construction and to the interior furnishings--the kind of care one would expect from a man who has himself built log cabins and lived in them. As usual, Mr. Cockayne doesn't confine himself to just one story. The panel on the front of the cabin shows the carver's view of a backwoods election campaign, with canvassing being done with a club.
