- Additional Information The custom of erecting a rooster on a church steeple dates as far back as medieval times. The tradition travelled with the early colonists to North America, as part of their religious and cultural heritage, and has remained particularly popular in Quebec. Cut from one board, this splendid bird with its tin comb, is an expression of the craftsman's strong artistic sense. Extremely simple techniques were employed to give a distinctive character to the highly stylized design.
