Additional Information
Linen Press
Jacob Fry, a cabinetmaker, emigrated with his family in 1799 from Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He is believed to have made this linen press for his son Henry during the 1820s, possibly for his wedding in 1823. Homes of this period generally did not have closets, so linen presses provided valuable storage space. It is beautifully crafted throughout and incorporates a mix of neoclassical features popular in the early 1800s. The oval brasses, escutcheons and dark varnish stain are original.
