Additional Information
Moulded Dish
The raised and embossed rim of this dish frames a centre panel with the figure of Diana the Huntress, carrying a bow and with a greyhound at her feet. The back of the dish is marked with a stamp, “Garnet & Davis.” John Davis immigrated to Canada in 1840 and, five years later, started a pottery on Yonge Street north of Toronto that prospered well into the 1920s. The community that grew around the pottery was named Davisville in his honour. Nothing is known about Garnet or the role he played.
