- Additional Information From its inception in 1933 until the 1970s, the Dominion Drama Festival was the showcase for the best in Canadian acting, directing and playwriting. It provided a focus for the network of amateur theatre companies found throughout Canada. The Massey Medal was awarded at the festival for best playwright. In 1978, reduced interest in the festival prompted its organizers to cease operations. Excerpt from exhibition text: Souvenirs of Canada, July 1994 to October 2005.
