These nations shared a territory that extended from the Appalachians to the Gulf of Mexico
and from the Atlantic coast to the Mississippi Valley. The fauna and flora of the area
were varied and abundant. Fertile soil and a warm and humid climate were conducive to the
development of agriculture. Some nations, like the Cherokee, the Creek, the Chickasaw and
the Choctaw, had settled in the warmest part of the temperate zone, while the Calusa, the
Seminole and the Timucua lived in Florida, in a subtropical climate.
