Most nineteenth century potters, conscious of the limitations of Canadian clays, confined themselves to making utilitarian items. W. E. Welding, owner of the Brantford Stoneware Pottery from 1873 to 1894, was no exception. This is one of his products: a teapot with a raised decoration of his own portrait.
