CMC K81-591; S83-683; PCD 96-164-011

By Billy Andrews; Bradford, Ontario; ca. 1950; painted wood, cloth; 27 x 19.5 x 11.5 cm. CMC 77-487

This figurine illustrates the well-known legend of the stork delivering the newborn infant to the family. Realistic, with a touch of humour, it mirrors the personality of the artist himself: "I'm just an ordinary man, and I'm using the talent that was given to me for life." The perfect detail and soft shades of colour make the carving a work of exquisite charm; it reveals the artist's attachment to tradition and his love of nature, particularly birds.
