The Canadian War Museum
Military Nursing Archival Collection
As noted, the documents and
photographs relating to the Nursing Sisters' Association of
Canada are in the National Archives of Canada collection.
However, the Canadian War Museum has its own small archive
containing documents and photographs covering the Canadian
military nursing experience.
The Canadian War Museum Military Nursing Archival collection
contains about 350 items, covering nursing sister activities
in general and, specifically, the Canadian nursing sister
experience in the two world wars. The collection includes a
large number of materials relating to Nursing Sister Katherine
Maude MacDonald, killed during a German bombing raid on
Étaples on May 19, 1918. It also includes a wide
selection of materials relating to military hospitals in both
world wars. In addition, the collection will be expanded to
include copies of the documents and photographs from the CNA
collection that are now held at the National Archives. The
collection can be searched on the Canadian War Museum's Web site
at www.warmuseum.ca.
