Elizabeth Collard, Guest Curator
Elizabeth Collard is the author of Nineteenth-Century Pottery and Porcelain in Canada (1967 and 1984), The Potters' View of Canada: Canadian Scenes on Nineteenth-Century Earthenware (1983), and numerous papers that have been published in well-known periodicals. She was born in Sawyerville, Quebec and educated at Mount Allison University, the University of Toronto and the University of Maine.

A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a member of the English Ceramic Circle, she is the consultant on ceramics to the Canadian Museum of Civilization and the honorary curator of ceramics at the McCord Museum, McGill University. Mount Allison University conferred on Mrs. Collard an honorary LL.D. in 1971 for her international recognition as a ceramic historian. She was awarded the Order of Canada in 1987 for her contributions to Canada's material history.

Mrs. Collard died on December 31, 2001.


Jean-Pierre Chrestien, Curator-in-Charge
Jean-Pierre Chrestien is the curator for Historical Archaeology in the History Division at the Canadian Museum of Civilization. Born in Black Lake, Quebec, he was educated at the Université du Québec in Trois-Rivières and the Université de Nancy, France (he received an LL.M. in History and Archaeology). He is currently completing his Ph.D. in History and Ceramic Study at the Université de Caen, France.

Mr. Chrestien was the Assistant Chief in Archaeology at Parks Canada from 1980 to 1985, when he joined the History Division of the Canadian Museum of Civilization.


Harry Foster, Senior Photographer
Harry Foster is head of Photographic Services at the Canadian Museum of Civilization, and he has made important contributions to many of the Museum's publications over the years. He has travelled throughout North America taking photographs for Museum-related book projects.

Mr. Foster has two Arts Canada postage stamps to his credit, the latest one featuring the Bill Reid sculpture The Spirit of Haida Gwaii, which is housed at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C.
