1920–1948

1920   Else Johannesson marries Jens Lund.

1920   South Jutland reverts back to Denmark after the Treaty of Versailles conducts a referendum.

1920   Carmela Staffiero immigrates to Toronto.

1921   Michael and Carmela marry in Toronto on January 24 and move to Markham Street. Michael opens a shoe-repair business at the corner of Markham and Bloor Streets.

1922   Columbo (Colly) Colangelo is born on June 18.

1926   Frederik Bennedsen and Anna Johannesson marry.

1929    Ole Bennedsen is born in January.

1930    Chris Bennedsen is born on September 26.

1934    Concetta (Connie) Colangelo is born on July 5.

1934    Sigvard Bennedsen is born in August.

1936 Chris begins work as a farm labourer.

1920–1948

1938   Ole Bennedsen drowns in the Spring.

1940   Jens Lund dies.

1940   Germany invades Denmark on April 9.

1942   The Colangelo family buys their first home at 190 Arlington Avenue.

1942    Michael opens a new dry-cleaning, laundry, and shoe-repair business in a storefront at 2394 Bloor Street West.

1943    The Danish government resigns in August; Germany begins running Denmark directly.

1944    Ella Bennedsen is born.

1944    Chris graduates from elementary school.

1945    Denmark is liberated on
May 5.

1948   Jens Skov and Christian Bennedsen begin planning their emigration to Canada.
