The Need to Create

Even as a child, Salvatore Lamonica was drawn to sculpture and had a desire to create. But at the time, Italy was experiencing hard times, so he turned to metalwork instead, a trade he pursued in Canada until his retirement. His desire to create remained alive, however. He convinced his former boss to let him use the scraps of metal from the factory to make sculptures when there was little work. That is how busts of famous people, and sculptures of Jesus, sirens, animals, dinosaurs, etc., were created by Mr. Lamonica over the years.
