Zhu Qizhan

From Taicang, Jiangsu Province. He twice went to Tokyo, Japan, to study oil painting. His works were mainly of landscapes, flowers and fruits. He was particularly adept in the drawing of orchids, bamboo and stones. He boldly absorbed the essence of "Impressionists" and applied their colouring techniques to Chinese landscape painting. His style was unique as it showed an integration of the Chinese and the Western arts. He was a teacher of the Shanghai Art and Drawing Institute, a professor of Xinhua Art College and an artist of the China Art Institute of Shanghai. He was also an adviser of the Federation of Chinese Artists. At the age of 90, he accepted an invitation as travelling lecturer in the United States. His works were widely exhibited in the United States, Japan, Singapore and Germany. Over 50 of his works were included in the collection of the Chinese Art Gallery and the Shanghai Art Gallery.
