From Yixing, Jiangsu Province. He had studied in France and his works showed
an integration of Chinese and Western techniques. He was famous for his
Chinese painting and oil painting and particularly renowned for his "horse"
drawings. He stressed the need for reality drawing, and his works showed a
unique blending of modern and classical styles. He was the Director of the
Central Art Institute of China and the Chairman of the Federation of Chinese
Artists. He had held many exhibitions in India, Singapore and other places.
Throughout his life, he trained and cultivated a large number of Chinese
artists, thereby making tremendous contributions to the development of
Chinese art.
