Life and Art


For the first half of the century China continued to be beset by internal political strife and foreign invasion. In 1949 the People’s Republic of China was established. Artists produced works to reflect a new era, a new country and the new life of the people. Many traditionally trained artists travelled widely to enrich their own background. They depicted scenes from practical life.
