An Aboriginal Presence

Alwyn Morris

Alwyn Morris was raised in the Mohawk community of Kahnawake, Quebec. His grandfather, a prominent athlete, encouraged him in his dream to compete in the Olympics. In the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, Morris and Hugh Fisher won gold and bronze medals in the kayak competition.

Accepting his medal, Morris raised an eagle feather in honour of his grandfather and his Mohawk heritage. An appointee to the Order of Canada, Morris continues to work with Aboriginal youth and amateur athletes.
