From 2002 to 2005, preventative archaeological research was undertaken in the region within the context of environmental studies initiated by the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019\u00e9nergie de la Baie James and the Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Program, based on an agreement with the Cree people. Thanks to an exceptional collaboration between teams of archaeologists, geographers and ethnologists from Ark\u00e9os inc. \u2014 the selected consultant \u2014 and the Cree Regional Authority, a huge amount of work was undertaken.<\/p>\n<p>The research carried out along the Eastmain River led to the excavation of 158 sites, representing a total of five millennia of human occupation. From a broad range of perspectives, the 18 contributions in this book present findings relating to the archaeological materials unearthed as well as the natural environment and cultural history of the area.
