Description

The collection is based on the “diving Whale pattern” of one of the most important Chilkat blankets in the collection of the Canadian Museum of History. Originally collected by Lord Bossom ca 1900, it was donated to the Canadian Museum of Man in 1955. Woven from mountain goat wool, commercial yarn, cedar bark and commercial twine, in the raven’s tail weaving style, it represents an early style of weaving that had died out by the end of the 19th century and is now being revived. Chilkat blankets were the specialty of the Tlingit but probably originated with the Tsimshian-speaking peoples of the Skeena and Nass Rivers on Canada’s west coast. 100% Cotton Size: 67″ X 48″
