Description

This pole by an unknown Haida artist depicts a fierce bear figure and a speckled fish. Bear appears to have eaten his fish victim through the top of his head: 14.5 cm high. The argillite reproduction pieces in high density resin are moulded from casts of original argillite Haida carvings from the Canadian Museum of History’s collections. Argillite is a soft slate found only on Haida Gwaii (the Queen Charlotte Islands); it was first quarried in the 1820’s on Slatechuck Mountain.
