Inuit carving of a European ship

Canadian Museum of History, IX-C:1100, IMG2016-0321-0023-Dm

This carving depicts a type of European vessel common during the 1500s and 1600s. The style of hat worn by the figure is similar to the Monmouth caps worn by European sailors during the same period. The carving was collected from an archaeological site in Amadjuak Bay, on the southern coast of Baffin Island.
