Gold Rush! – El Dorado in British Columbia: Getting There

The Museum recently opened the special exhibition, Gold Rush! – El Dorado in British Columbia, which relives the tumultuous days of gold’s discovery in British Columbia’s Fraser Canyon in the 19th century. In this short video, Dr. John Willis, the Museum’s Curator of Economic History, describes the perilous trek to the region and the tensions that prevailed among miners desperate to lay their hands on the precious metal. Miners fought against miners and against First Nations communities and they also resisted attempts by authorities to enforce the rule of law.

Gold Rush! – El Dorado in British Columbia is on display until January 15, 2017. The exhibition is organized by the Royal BC Museum, in collaboration with the Canadian Museum of History.
