Astronomical clock

This grandfather-type clock is actually an astronomical clock. It was used by Samuel Johannes Holland, the first surveyor general of British North America (from 1764 to 1801), to determine the longitudes for surveys of Prince Edward Island, Cape Breton and the lower St. Lawrence valley. The clockmaker was George Graham, considered one of England’s greatest horologists.
