What’s next at the Children’s Museum? Shhh! It’s TOP SECRET!
Gatineau, Quebec, December 6, 2006 – The Canadian Children’s Museum isn’t just toying with its young visitors – it really is planning an exhibition full of adventure and intrigue. Top Secret: Mission Toy, opening on February 3, 2007, invites kids to do what they do best – have fun – as they investigate how children from around the world make and play with toys.Toys in all their forms are an essential and universal part of growing up, not only because they’re fun, but also because they help children develop important physical, mental and social skills. Top Secret: Mission Toy recognizes that children are the ultimate authorities in this field. When they enter the exhibition, they’ll be issued a lab coat and become members of a crack team of international experts brought together for an important mission: to investigate the world of toys.
These international toy agents will have fun as they explore similarities and differences between toys across cultures, and they’ll be challenged as they investigate toys that develop skills. Agents will research the diversity of toys and discover how the power of imagination can transform them.
“Every child loves toys, and every adult has fond memories of their favourites, whether it’s a simple doll, a homemade tin-can telephone set, or a more recent video game,” said Dr. Victor Rabinovitch, President and CEO of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation. “Top Secret: Mission Toy celebrates the fun of toys while showing us how they are part of our education and socialization.”
Besides highlighting the CCM’s rich toy collection, Top Secret: Mission Toy will feature hands-on displays, interactive devices, games and other activities aimed at children from ages 5 to 12.
Top Secret: Mission Toy, presented until Sept. 3, 2007, is an exhibition created and produced by the Canadian Children’s Museum. It will travel to other children’s museums across North America in future years.
