Two new trustees appointed to the Board of the
Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation

 Gatineau, Quebec, April 10, 2012 —The Chairman of the Board of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation is pleased to welcome two new members to its Board of Trustees. They are Michael Bliss, one of Canada’s foremost historians, and Christopher McCreery, a public policy advisor and currently Private Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia and Executive Director of Government House Halifax.

The order-in-council appointments were announced by the Minister of Canadian Heritage, the Honourable James Moore. The Corporation’s 11-member Board oversees the operation of the Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Canadian War Museum, Canada’s national museums of human and military history.

“On behalf of my fellow Trustees, I am delighted to welcome Michael Bliss and Christopher McCreery to the Board,” said LGen (ret’d) Bill Leach, the Board’s Chair. “They will enrich our deliberations with their knowledge of Canadian history and their dedication to education and public service.”

Michael Bliss is an award-winning author of 14 books and a respected commentator and lecturer. He retired in 2006 as a professor of history at the University of Toronto, where he taught and wrote for 38 years, specializing in the history of medicine and the history of Canada. Professor Bliss was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in 1999 and elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 1984.

Christopher McCreery has a PhD in Canadian Political History from Queen’s University, Kingston. He is the author of 14 books and is a recognized authority on Canadian honours and decorations. He also serves as a Member of the Department of Canadian Heritage War of 1812 Advisory Committee, and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Committee. In 2010, he served on a six-member committee appointed by the Prime Minister to advise on the appointment of the Governor General. He previously worked as Senior Advisor to the Leader of the Government in the Senate, and Senior Policy Advisor to the Speaker of the Senate.
