Sayonara JAPAN: Tradition. Innovation.

Gatineau, Quebec, September 20, 2011 — Visitors have until October 10 to explore the roots of contemporary Japanese innovation in the exhibition JAPAN: Tradition. Innovation. Since its opening in May, more than 104 000 visitors have admired the historical artifacts in the exhibition, including a Picnic Set and a Daimyo Suit of Armour from the Edo period, as well as several contemporary objects like the Wakamaru robot and a selection of manga comic books.

Come and meet Paro, an adorable robotic baby seal, or try your hand at furoshiki, the Japanese art of wrapping with cloth. Take advantage of your visit to participate in one of the special activities in conjunction with the exhibition.

Dr. Mamoru Mohri, a renowned scientist and astronaut who is currently the Chief Executive Director of the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Japan. Dr. Mohri is known for his ability to make science and technology accessible to people of all ages. He will share his perspective on earth, science and life and how it has changed as a result of his Shuttle experiences. Free tickets are available at the Museum Box Office.

Don’t miss this last chance to see the exhibition with curator Alan Elder, as he recounts his experiences in developing it. Then, discover fascinating insights into historical artifacts, including clothing, wood block prints and folding screens with representative from the National Museum of Japanese History in Tokyo.
