Passion of the Pipa

The Passion of the Pipa

Gatineau, Quebec, July 12, 2007 — On July 21 and 22, join award-winning musician Yadong Guan at the Canadian Museum of Civilization as she blends modern and traditional sounds on the pipa, a 2,000-year old instrument. The pipa is a plucked Chinese string instrument that is sometimes called the Chinese lute. The instrument has a pear-shaped wooden body. This concert by Yadong Guan is sure to charm the listener’s ear and soul, thanks to the pipa’s magical sounds.

This activity is presented in conjunction with the Museum’s newest exhibition, Treasures from China, where visitors will see some of civilization’s finest artifacts, illuminating the rich history and achievements of the Chinese people. The exhibition is presented until October 28, 2007.
