Try your hand at furoshiki, the Japanese art of wrapping with cloth. Using traditional techniques from Japan, you will learn how to create beautiful gifts and packages. The art of furoshiki, developed over several centuries in Japan, has been revived in recent years as a stylish way of reducing the use of disposable packaging. Museum volunteers will show you step-by-step how it is done.

Meet Paro, the Robotic Baby Seal!

Tangram Challenge!

Come take our Tangram Challenge with your family! Everyone will have a blast putting together these life-sized seven-piece puzzles. Starting with a silhouette and the large geometric pieces, you’ll have to complete the picture. Here’s a tip: start with the beginner puzzle; then work your way up to expert status.

Autumn Moon Festival
September 10 and 11

Children’s Museum
Celebrate the autumn moon and visit the exhibition Children of Hangzhou: Connecting with China before it’s gone! Make a moon mask, sample a traditional moon cake and take part in a lion dance parade. Create a unique lantern and let it float in the Waterfall Court.

Creative Art-Making

Studio
The theme for September is “Kokeshi Dolls.” These drop-in activities for ages 5 and up invite children to jumpstart their imaginations and stretch their creative thinking skills—while having a boatload of fun!
