New Chair Appointed to Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation

Gatineau, Quebec, February 8, 2012 — The Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation is pleased to welcome LGen (ret’d) William (Bill) Leach as the new Chair of its Board of Trustees. The Order-in-Council appointment was announced this week by the Minister of Canadian Heritage, the Honourable James Moore. General Leach brings to the position a wealth of experience in the Canadian military and the private and volunteer sectors. 

 Bill Leach served for more than 40 years in the Canadian Army and the Canadian Forces. He retired from the military in 2000 while serving as Chief of the Land Staff and Commander Land Force Command. He then worked in the private sector, holding executive positions at Honeywell Canada and later Mincom, a leading global provider of software and services based in Australia.

Since 2010 he has devoted his energies to his volunteer work. Of particular note, he is currently President and Chair of the Board of the Friends of the Canadian War Museum, an organization dedicated to the promotion and support of Canada’s national museum of military history. The War Museum is part of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation.

General Leach is also on the Executive Committee of the Military Families Fund (MFF); he is the Honorary Colonel of the Ottawa Service Battalion; and he is Chairman of the Defence and Security Committee of the Royal Canadian Legion.

General Leach is a recipient of the Canadian Order of Military Merit (Commander) and the US Legion of Merit (Commander). He is a graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada.

The Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation operates the Canadian Museum of Civilization, the Canadian War Museum and the Virtual Museum of New France. As part of their mandate, the Museums function as centres for research and public information on the social, military and human history of the country. Their principal role is to preserve and promote the heritage of Canada for present and future generations, thereby contributing to the enhancement of Canadian identity.
