Gatineau, Quebec, October 21, 2011 — A tour of the magnificent Grand Hall at the Canadian Museum of Civilization is among this country’s top tourism experiences, according to the organization that markets Canadian tourism to the world. The Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) this week added the Grand Hall tour to its Signature Experiences Collection®, used by the CTC in its international marketing efforts.
The CTC describes the Collection as a showcase for high-quality Canadian tourism enterprises that deliver memorable experiences. The Collection currently comprises 115 members from coast to coast to coast that met rigorous criteria.
“We are delighted to receive this recognition from the Canadian Tourism Commission and to assist its marketing efforts internationally,” said Mark O’Neill, President and CEO of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation. “This underscores the world-class experience offered by the Museum—an experience already enjoyed by more than 1.2 million visitors annually.”
The Grand Hall offers a spectacular introduction to the history, cultures and beliefs of the Aboriginal peoples of Canada’s Pacific Coast. With its curving, six-storey window wall and unrivalled view of Parliament Hill, the Grand Hall is the Museum’s architectural centrepiece and one of the country’s most impressive indoor public spaces. It houses the world’s largest indoor collection of totem poles and provides a stunning venue for public and private events.
