Museum wins three awards for fundraising event

Gatineau, Quebec, June 13, 2007 — An innovative fundraising event has earned two national awards and a regional award for the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation.

In February, the Canadian Museum of Civilization received national recognition from the Canadian Event Industry Awards (CEIA) in the “Most Outstanding Event $100,000 – $300,000” category for the Civilization Costume Ball –– A Journey Through Time. The Canadian Event Industry Awards is a national program which recognizes outstanding achievements in Canadian special events, meeting management, conference planning and exhibition management.

The Civilization Costume Ball –– A Journey Through Time has also won an Award of Excellence from the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS), recognizing outstanding performance and exemplary achievements by public relations professionals. The award will be presented June 15 at the Society’s annual conference in Edmonton, Alberta.

“This second award is another testament to the imagination and hard work of the Museum’s staff, and a tribute to the hundreds of community and corporate leaders who made the gala such a resounding success,” said Francine Brousseau, Vice-President, Development, for the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation. “The awards also confirm that we’re on track in combining fun and fundraising with a Canadian historic purpose.”

In May, the fundraising event received a third prize: The Excel Awards in Communications Programs and Special Events from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) – Ottawa Chapter. The International Association of Business Communicators recognizes the most creative and innovative communications professionals in the National Capital Region.

The Civilization Costume Ball –– A Journey Through Time was held September 20, 2006 in the Grand Hall of the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Gatineau. It was the first event of its kind ever organized by the Museum. About 400 people donned period costumes and spent an enchanting and enlightening evening in the company of historical notables such as Sir John A. Macdonald, Jacques Cartier and Queen Victoria. The guests also enjoyed a gourmet meal inspired by period recipes.

Proceeds from the gala went to the National Collection Fund, which supports the acquisition of important artifacts for the Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Canadian War Museum.

The Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation will host a second costume ball on October 17, 2007 at the Canadian War Museum.
