For immediate release
Gatineau, Quebec, September 13, 2012—The Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation has launched mobile-friendly websites for the Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Canadian War Museum.
These new websites are designed to assist the nearly two million visitors attracted to the two Museums every year. Increasingly, these visitors—many from outside Canada’s Capital Region—use mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets to get information about the Museum of Civilization, the War Museum and other attractions.
The new mobile-friendly sites offer highly streamlined interfaces and simple, intuitive touch navigation for the sections of the Museums’ websites which mobile users access most often. Both sites offer home page access to “What’s On” at the Museums and information for planning a visit, and the Museum of Civilization home page includes an IMAX® Theatre section. Both sites support a feature unique to mobile devices: directions to the Museums based on a mobile user’s location.
Last year, the museums’ websites had 2.8 million visitors. Of those, 10% were mobile users, a number consistent with mobile web use across the world. With more than a third of Canadians now accessing the Internet through a mobile device, according to Ipsos Reid, that number is expected to increase.
