Gatineau, Quebec, July 30, 2007 — Visit the exhibition Unique! 30 Years of Outstanding Crafts at the Canadian Museum of Civilization before it closes on August 5, 2007. This popular exhibition has attracted more than 88,000 visitors to date. Canada’s most stunning and original handcrafted pieces take centre stage in UNIQUE! From elegant furniture to delicate glassware, see 120 examples of Canada’s finest crafts made by the country’s most accomplished and creative craftspeople.

Drawn exclusively from the Museum’s unrivalled collection of Canadian crafts, the pieces selected for UNIQUE! reflect the remarkable depth and diversity of Canada’s craft community. Articles range from writing desks to teacups, bookbindings to silverware, fireplace tools to tapestries. This exhibition reflects the vision, passion and skill of Canadian craftspeople who are helping to define this country’s design culture.

Unique! 30 Years of Outstanding Crafts celebrates the 30th anniversary of The Saidye Bronfman Award to recognize and honour the high levels of excellence achieved by Canadian craft artists. The 2006 recipient, ceramist and sculptor Peter Powning, is among those featured in the exhibition.
