Kenya 3D roars into Museum of Civilization’s IMAX® Theatre!

September 24, 2013

September 24, 2013, Gatineau, Quebec — The Canadian Museum of Civilization’s IMAX® Theatre invites movie-goers on an epic journey into the most spectacular wildlife sanctuary on Earth in the new IMAX 3D film Kenya 3D, which will open on September 27, 2013.

“Our primary goal with this film was to bring audiences into the heart of Africa to discover the exceptional diversity of the local wildlife in 3D as never before seen on the stunning IMAX screen,” said director Jean-Jacques Mantello.

Viewers will come face-to-face with the region’s famous fauna in their natural habitat, including the “big five” — lions, elephants, Cape buffalo, leopards and black rhinos — as well as giraffes, hippos and cheetahs, among many others.

“Most documentary films focus on a single species and include scenes of people filming the animals from a jeep or scientists studying them. With Kenya 3D, we illustrate the incredible natural richness of this magnificent animal kingdom and allow viewers to see the fauna exactly as locals see it,” Mantello explained.

“This film is a true ‘safari,’ which means ‘journey’ in Swahili. It is a trek with two young Maasai guiding us through the areas they grew up in and where their people have been living in harmony with nature for centuries.”

Two years in the making, the film was shot entirely on location in Kenya at the Masai Mara National Reserve, Samburu National Reserve, Amboseli National Park, Loita Hills, Lake Bogoria National Reserve and Solio Game Reserve.
