Francine Brousseau named Vice-President Development at the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation

Gatineau, Quebec, October 10, 2006 – The Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation (CMCC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Francine Brousseau to the position of Vice-President, Development, at the CMCC, which comprises Canada’s two national museums of human history, the Canadian Museum of Civilization (CMC) and the Canadian War Museum (CWM). The appointment was made in early September 2006. Ms. Brousseau has occupied the position on an interim basis since April 2005.

As Vice-President, Development, Ms. Brousseau oversees the fundraising activities of the CMC and the CWM. She recently ensured the success of the fundraising gala the Civilization Costume Ball – A Journey Through Time, whose proceeds went to the National Collection Fund.

In congratulating Ms. Brousseau on her appointment, Dr. Victor Rabinovitch, CEO of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation, observed: “Francine has all the necessary qualities to run the Canadian Museum of Civilization’s first National Collection Fund campaign and to obtain the support of new sponsors for the fascinating activity and exhibition programming at both museums.”

Ms. Brousseau has worked in the heritage and museology fields since 1975. After completing her studies in Art History and Canadian Literature, as well as a Master’s degree in Public Administration, she worked as a historian at Pluram Inc., Parks Canada and the National Assembly of Quebec from 1975 to 1981. She was an advisor in museology and history from 1981 to 1984 when she started at the National Postal Museum. There, she was curator, exhibition manager and director.

Ms. Brousseau joined the CMCC in 1988 when the National Postal Museum merged with the Corporation. She worked as curator and director and oversaw the opening of the Canadian Postal Museum in 1997 at the CMCC. She continued as Director of the CPM and in 2000 also took on the role of Director of Exhibitions, occupying this double role until her recent move to the Development Branch.

Ms. Brousseau has served on several boards of directors, committees and foundations, notably at the Société des musées québécois, the Commission des biens culturels du Québec, the Fondation des partenaires de la Biosphère de Montréal, and the International Association of Transport and Communications Museums (IATM), of which she was the first vice-president. From 1998 to 2004, she was a member of the board of the Canadian Museums Association, and its president from 2000 to 2002.

Francine Brousseau has dedicated her entire career to the preservation and promotion of Canada’s heritage. As Vice-President of the Development Branch, she will continue to pursue her mission by seeking the support of the community for this important cause.
