Evening of Peruvian Dance and Music to Aid Earthquake Victims


Gatineau, Quebec, October 4, 2007 — The Embassy of Peru in Canada and the Canadian Museum of Civilization invite you to join an evening of Peruvian music and dance in support of the victims of the August 15 earthquake that has devastated the central coast of Peru. The money collected will be donated to the region to help reconstruction efforts.

Featured performers include Canadian Idol winner Eva Avila; Ayni, a group that showcases the music and instruments of the Peruvian Highlands; and Essence of Peru, a troupe performing traditional dances from the affected region.

The Canadian Museum of Civilization will be presenting Secret Riches: Ancient Peru Unearthed from December 14, 2007 to April 27, 2008. This exhibition will reveal the long-lost secrets of the Sicán civilization, which thrived a thousand years ago in northern Peru. Secret Riches: Ancient Peru Unearthed features 120 gold and ceramic treasures from a single archaeological excavation.

The event is held in partnership with Barrick, SNC Lavalin and Scotiabank.
