Dr. Victor Rabinovitch renewed as head of the
Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation

Gatineau, Québec – December 18, 2009 – Fredrik S. Eaton, Chairman of the Board of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation (CMCC), is pleased to announce the renewal of Dr. Victor Rabinovitch as President and Chief Executive Officer of the CMCC until May 22, 2011.

“Over the past nine years, Dr. Rabinovitch has helped shape the Museum of Civilization and the War Museum as pre-eminent contributors to Canadian social and historical identity,” said Mr. Eaton. “Since his appointment in 2000, he has led the construction and opening of the Canadian War Museum on LeBreton Flats, the transformation of our permanent exhibitions into exceptional showcases for Canadian history and society, and the expansion of our research and special exhibition projects. He also spearheaded innovative partnerships with Brazil, Russia, Japan and China and with museums across Canada, helping to bring Canadian culture and history coast to coast and around the world.”

Dr. Rabinovitch noted that “these years have been an extraordinary period of creativity and practical delivery. Now that the recent strike is behind us and a four-year agreement has been reached, staff and management can move forward with our common goal: the continued success and excellence of the Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Canadian War Museum as essential Canadian cultural institutions.”

Dr. Rabinovitch’s term will focus on implementing new strategic objectives set out by the Board of Trustees. These include greater emphasis on sharing projects with partner museums across the country, on collecting and presenting materials that reflect the political dimensions of Canada’s rich experience, and on attracting private sector support to supplement government funding.
