Gatineau, Quebec, October 8, 2014 — The Canadian Museum of History’s IMAX® Theatre and nWave Pictures Distribution invite audiences on an exploration of a paradise unlike any other, with the breathtaking new IMAX 3D film Galapagos 3D, premiering on Friday, October 10, 2014.

For the first time ever, Galapagos 3D brings to IMAX 3D these remarkable volcanic islands, home to some of nature’s most incredible living creatures. Located close to the equator in the Pacific Ocean, at the confluence of several nutrient-rich currents, the Galapagos Archipelago has developed over millions of years in relative isolation.

The result is a living museum of nature, with an abundance of species of plants and animals that have adapted to thrive in this challenging environment. Giant half-ton long-necked tortoises lumber among dancing blue-footed boobies and flightless cormorants. Small penguins living thousands of miles from their natural habitats share the seas with unique marine iguanas that spit sea-salt. This is an incredible story of discovery, of survival against the odds, and of nature’s ingenuity.

“Galapagos is full of dramas, and it’s also full of very, very charismatic animals, which, because they are uniquely unafraid of humans, you can get extremely close to while filming. It’s a wonderful subject for the 3D medium,” explains the film’s writer, legendary naturalist David Attenborough. “Home to some 9,000 species, with 80 percent of the land-dwelling population being indigenous to the islands, Galapagos is one of the wonders of the world, and the animals are absolutely riveting in 3D.”

“Through the use of breathtaking computer-generated images in 3D and cutting-edge cameras for capturing unique time-lapse and live-action sequences, we wanted moviegoers to discover in a whole new way this fascinating biological treasure,” explains Anthony Geffen, the film’s producer. “The film’s commitment is to foster a greater understanding of the living world through this ultimate combination of science and entertainment.”

Galapagos 3D is produced by Anthony Geffen and written by David Attenborough and distributed by nWave Pictures Distribution. The film is directed by Martin Williams and features original music composed by Joel Douek. Galapagos 3D is a Colossus Productions presentation in association with SKY 3D. The film has been rated G and has a run time of 40 minutes.
