Creating Chinese paper cuttings
Gatineau, Quebec, June 28, 2007 — Have you ever wondered how to make Chinese paper cuttings? On July 7 and 8, join Rowena Tolson in the Treasures from China exhibition at the Canadian Museum of Civilization and try your hand at making traditional Chinese paper cuttings from simple motifs.Since paper was invented in the Eastern Han Dynasty in China, Chinese paper cutting was the first type of paper-cutting design developed. The art form later spread to other parts of the world, where it was adapted to fit local cultural styles.
This activity is presented in conjunction with the Museum’s newest exhibition, Treasures from China, where visitors will see some of civilization’s finest artifacts, illuminating the rich history and achievements of the Chinese people. The exhibition is presented until October 28, 2007.
