Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation wins award of excellence for costume ball fundraiser

Gatineau, Quebec, April 4, 2008 — A top event planning industry award went to the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation (CMCC) this week for outstanding achievement in the organization of its fundraising event, The History Costume Ball: The Age of Style. The Museum won in the category of Most Outstanding Event $100,000 to $300,000 at the annual Canadian Event Industry Awards (CEIA) Gala, held in Toronto on the evening of April 3, 2008.

The History Costume Ball, which took place at the Canadian War Museum on October 17, 2007, invited guests wearing period costume to travel back to the Age of Style and enjoy a memorable night, reliving the glitz and glamour of the 1920s, ’30s and ’40s, all while supporting a worthy cause. Costumes were provided by Radio-Canada and designed by their Montreal costume specialists. Major partners in the event were the National Post, the Ottawa Citizen, Le Droit and Compass Group.

“This is truly an honour we take to heart. The History Costume Ball was a significant activity for the Museum Corporation, as it helped raise vital support for the National Collection Fund. The Fund enables the Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Canadian War Museum to continue to meet our mandate of collecting significant objects related to Canada’s rich history,” commented Dr. Victor Rabinovitch, President and CEO of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation.

Heading up the organization of the fundraising ball was Francine Brousseau, Vice-President of Development at the CMCC. “The hard work of our committee of volunteers and the staff at the Museums played an invaluable role in the success of this event, second only to the incredible support shown by our sponsors and guests. We are honoured to have received this recognition from the CEIA,” commented Ms. Brousseau.

The National Collection Fund was established in 2006 by the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation to support the acquisition of artifacts by its two museums: the Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Canadian War Museum. The Fund will help ensure that important pieces of our national heritage are not lost or dispersed.
