CMCC disappointed by union vote
Gatineau, Quebec, November 27, 2009 — The Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation is disappointed by the result of the vote held yesterday by the Public Service Alliance of Canada on the Museum’s enhanced final contract offer to employees represented by the union.
The offer presented by the Museum was a fair and reasonable settlement. It spoke about our willingness to compromise and addressed key concerns of employees, including new language on contracting out, salary increases, improved job security and staffing provisions, while maintaining the flexibility to operate the two museums. “It was a valid attempt to get our employees back to work but only one party was willing to compromise,” said CMCC Management. It is unfortunate that the offer did not get more careful consideration, in light of economic realities and restraint.
Although the union claimed to be ready to negotiate, they refused to budge, remained inflexible and intransigent. They stood firm on their unrealistic demands, including a wage and benefit proposal which would result in a 30% increase in salary expenses for the Museums.
Sadly, the strike continues.
