Celebrate Culture Days at the Museum of Civilization

September 23, 2011

Gatineau, Quebec, September 22, 2011—The Canadian Museum of Civilization has a picture-perfect way to celebrate Culture Days this year. On Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2, history buffs are invited to join artists, historians and curators in hands-on cultural activities.

Join Museum archaeologist Jean-Luc Pilon and Dr. Frédéric Dessène, a postdoctoral fellow at CÉLAT, Université Laval, for a fascinating look at local prehistoric pottery, as well as a wide range of Quebec ceramics. Then, inspired by these earlier forms of pottery, tap into your inner artist to make and decorate your own clay pot with guidance from two professional potters.

For 15 years, Les Journées de la culture has been an annual celebration in Quebec that highlights the importance of making culture and the arts accessible to everyone. Thousands of artists, craftspeople and cultural workers offer free, fun activities that provide inside access to creative processes, and artistic and cultural know-how. Inspired by Quebec’s Les Journées de la culture, Culture Days is organizing its second annual celebration of culture from coast to coast. Overseen by a national steering committee and provincial task forces, Culture Days promotes free participatory events. For more information, visit www.culturepourtous.ca or call 1-866-734-4441.
