Canadian War Museum to commemorate Canada’s military past, not the Canadian Museum of History, as reported

Gatineau, Quebec, May 16, 2014 — Contrary to what was reported by The Canadian Press today, all of the exhibitions and programs commemorating the First and Second World Wars are taking place at the Canadian War Museum and not the Canadian Museum of History.

The Canadian War Museum is Canada’s national museum of military history. The War of 1812, the First World War and the Second World War were defining moments in the history of our country. It is the Canadian War Museum’s mandate to present Canada’s military past and how it shaped our country.  Over the next five years the Canadian War Museum will do exactly that: implement its mandate and present exhibitions and programs on key military moments that have shaped our country and our distinctiveness.

The Canadian Museum of History includes both the Museum of History and its affiliate museum, the Canadian War Museum.
