Alexandra bridge rehabilitation: Access to the Museum of Civilization

Gatineau, Quebec, March 31, 2010 — From April to October 2010, access for visitors travelling to the Canadian Museum of Civilization by car via the Alexandra Bridge will be reduced. During that period, only one lane will be open to circulation, primarily to traffic going to Ottawa. Pedestrians and cyclists will have continuous use of the wooden boardwalk.

Starting April 6, the construction on Alexandra Bridge may mean getting to the Museum via another route. On weekdays until 2 p.m., on weekends and on holidays, the bridge will be open to Ottawa-bound traffic only, but the Museum is easily accessed via the Portage, Macdonald-Cartier, Chaudière and Champlain bridges.

Before travelling to the Museum, visitors can check traffic directions on Public Works and Government Services Canada’s website (www.tpsgc-pwgsc.gc.ca) or by calling 1 866 674-3614.

Details:

  • Weekdays until 2 p.m., weekends and holidays: Traffic coming from Ottawa will have to take a route other than the Alexandra Bridge to come to the Museum.

  • Weekday afternoons and early evenings (2 p.m. to 7 p.m.): Normal vehicular access to the Museum via the Alexandra Bridge.

  • Boardwalk: open to cyclists and pedestrians at all times.
