A special hello from the International Space Station

March 4, 2013, Gatineau, Quebec — The Canadian Museum of Civilization’s IMAX® Theatre is thrilled to announce that it will present a special video made by Canadian Space Agency Astronaut Chris Hadfield, in which he introduces the IMAX film Space Station,  now returning to the IMAX® Dome screen.

Hadfield recorded the video inside the International Space Station, as it orbits 400 kilometres above the Earth.

The video, which precedes the film, is bound to inspire and ignite the imagination of all who see it. “When I was eight years old, I was inspired by film footage of the first astronauts who walked on the moon, and ever since then I have dreamed of commanding a space ship — and here I am,” said astronaut Hadfield.

In Space Station, audiences will see Hadfield at work in space on an earlier mission.

Space Station will be presented at the Museum for the entire month of March. The film will appeal to all audiences, in particular those who have followed Hadfield on Twitter and in the media. More than 443,000 followers currently follow the Canadian astronaut on Twitter, a staggering number since he started his mission only a few months ago with 20,000 followers.

Hadfield was the first Canadian to operate the Space Shuttle’s Canadarm and to walk in space. Chris Hadfield will soon be the first Canadian to take command of the International Space Station. The re-release of the epic IMAX film Space Station is also timed in honour of his accomplishments.

Hadfield’s video and the IMAX film will be screened in English and in French.

Space Station will be shown for the month of March and will be presented alongside Flight of the Butterflies 3D and The Last Reef 3D: Cities Beneath The Sea.
