A photojournalist’s visit with the Bedouin tribes of Petra

Gatineau, Quebec, June 8, 2006 — The Canadian Museum of Civilization invites you to come spend an evening discovering and learning about the Bedouin tribes of Petra, in conjunction the exhibition PETRA: Lost City of Stone, presented until January 2, 2007.

For nearly two decades, photojournalist Vivian Ronay captured on film how five generations of Bedouins went through a dramatic change in lifestyle when they moved from the ancient ruins of Petra to a nearby community and became an integral part of Petra’s tourism industry. The photos selected for this colourful talk will paint an intimate portrait of the Bedoul Bedouins, and show the stark beauty of their desert homeland. Join us in the Theatre on Thursday, June 15, 2006 to discover the contemporary lifestyle of Petra’s most recent inhabitants.
