PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
For immediate release
Gatineau, Quebec, January 24, 2012 — The Canadian Museum of Civilization salutes the 2012 NHL All-Star Game, being held in Ottawa from January 26 through January 29, with a special free display on Maurice “The Rocket” Richard.
From January 26 to 30, visitors will have the rare opportunity to view some of Richard’s most treasured hockey memorabilia.
Rockets travel to the stars, but Maurice “The Rocket” Richard WAS a star. He was the only hockey player ever to have been awarded all three stars at the end of a game. He wore the All-Star jersey 13 of his 18 seasons with the NHL; attracted trophies and inspired awards as a star player long after his playing career had ended; and he remained a star till the very end of his life—even beyond it (take a look at a $5 bill).
The Rocket’s star still gleams at the Canadian Museum of Civilization. His awards, trophies, cups, medals – the whole constellation is here. They orbit around The Rocket’s 1949 All-Star sweater, blazing red, shining with stars, the only one of its kind, and out of this world.
Hockey All-Stars? We have the original. Come see “The Rocket” shine at the Canadian Museum of Civilization.
