A great kick-off to National Aboriginal History Month!

Gatineau, Quebec, May 31, 2011—In conjunction with National Aboriginal History Month, the Canadian Museum of Civilization invites you to a special evening with the Aboriginal singer, Kinnie Starr.

Don’t miss this exciting cultural journey featuring traditional drumming and dancing and great contemporary music from this singer-songwriter from Calgary. Starr’s music, which blends hip hop and alternative rock, has been described as “hip hop, aggro groove.”

The Museum presents a night of Aboriginal voice, music and dance along with a special performance of Aboriginal singer Kinnie Starr. A great kick-off to National Aboriginal History Month! In partnership with the Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health.

Kinnie Starr is a Juno Award-winning producer (2010, Digging Roots, “We Are”) and Juno-nominated artist (2004, “Sun Again”).
Starr’s songs have been featured on the TV series The L-Word, the movie Thirteen and in Zellers advertisements, as well as on Le Chateau’s regular national play lists (Canada) and Fashion Television Canada. She has toured Germany, Japan, Spain, England, the United States and Canada, and has performed twice in the annual broadcast of Canada’s National Aboriginal Achievement Awards twice. The Royal B.C. Museum in Victoria, B.C., recognized Starr, who is of mixed European and Mohawk heritage, as one of British Columbia’s cultural icons in 2008.

As a social activist, Starr dedicates some of her spare time to working with youth. She has visited more than 60 schools in recent years as a mentor through the B.C.-based Artstarts in Schools program, which promotes literacy and authentic expression through the arts.
