2009 History Costume Ball: In Support of the National Collection Fund

Ottawa, September 14, 2009 — On October 28, 2009 more than 400 guests will be celebrating while helping to preserve Canadian heritage at the 2009 History Costume Ball: The Great Canadian Adventure. Presented by Borden, Ladner and Gervais LLP, the Ball will be held in the LeBreton Gallery of the Canadian War Museum, with proceeds supporting the National Collection Fund.

The Museum of Civilization and the War Museum contribute to the understanding of Canadian cultural and military history, keeping alive the social fabric that connects us all. The National Collection Fund, which helps fund acquisitions of historic objects for preservation and public access, allows the Museums to share with all Canadians the objects that speak so proudly of our heritage. Today’s media event showcased four such artifacts: Tom Thomson’s The Foot Path of Peace, the Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Shankland Victoria Cross medal set, the Jacques Plante hockey mask and the Inuit print Shaman Revealed, by artist Ningeokuluk Teevee.

“The Museums’ collections connect with communities, locally and nationally,” said Mark O’Neill, Vice-President of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation and Director General of the Canadian War Museum. “With the proceeds raised by the Ball, we can ensure that Canadian artifacts stay in Canada and that our heritage continues to engage present and future generations with pride.” 

The evening’s entertainment will include the Ottawa-based Floyd Hutchinson Jazz Quintet and the much-acclaimed Stevens and Kennedy band. Guests will be delighted by our Dramamuse actors who will bring to life various Canadian adventurers, from lumberjacks to fur traders.
