Gatineau, Quebec, October 7, 2016 — Beginning October 7, the Canadian Museum of History’s CINÉ+ invites you to explore the increasingly fragile world of one of the most awe-inspiring and misunderstood creatures on Earth.

For centuries, great white sharks have been feared and hated. As the apex predator of the seas, great whites have been demonized in books, films and newspaper accounts as little more than thoughtless killing machines. In the breathtaking new film Great White Shark 3D, this legacy is explored, overturning many of our misconceptions about these sharks and describing the threats they face in today’s world.

Narrated by award-winning British actor Bill Nighy, the film takes viewers from remote Stewart Island off the southernmost tip of New Zealand to South Africa, California and the subtropical waters of Mexico’s Guadalupe Island. Captured in stunning high-speed digital format, Great White Shark 3D introduces people whose lives and work are inextricably entwined with the sharks, whether tagging them for scientific study or free diving alongside these giants of the deep.

Through cutting-edge 3D technology, the film features rare and never-before-seen footage of great whites around the world. Captured flying through the air as they breach off the coast of South Africa or investigating the unexpected presence of humans in their watery environment, great whites ultimately become no different than other apex predators such as lions and polar bears. Working with international conservation organizations to ensure the great white’s survival, the filmmakers behind Great White Shark 3D have produced a dramatic and moving tribute to this endangered creature.

Great White Shark 3D has a running time of 40 minutes. Produced by Yes/No Productions and Liquid Pictures 3D, the film is distributed by Giant Screen Films.
