Culture Days at the Museum: A behind-the-scenes look at the making of 1867 – Rebellion and Confederation

Gatineau, Quebec, September 18,  2015 — The Canadian Museum of History is inviting the public to celebrate Culture Days on Saturday, September 26, 2015 with an exclusive, behind-the-scenes visit in the Museum’s Objects Lab led by 1867 – Rebellion and Confederation curator Jean-François Lozier and conservator Rebecca Renner.

Get the inside scoop on the making of this major exhibition and discover the historical significance of treasured artifacts from the Museum’s national collection — including objects linked to Confederation and personal items belonging to Canada’s first Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald.

The Museum will host two presentations; one in French and one in English. The activity is suitable for ages 10 and up. Free admission. Registration required: 819-776-7000.

1867 – Rebellion and Confederation: On July 1, 1867, Confederation was proclaimed. It marked the birth of modern Canada and the culmination of a 30-year process. Explore the journey of a society in transition and meet the people who fought, negotiated and made compromises to better coexist.

Culture Days and Les Journées de la culture are celebrated yearly to highlight the importance of the arts and culture in Canada. For three days in September, hundreds of thousands of artists and cultural organizations come together and invite Canadians to participate in free, interactive and behind-the-scenes activities.
